UNCHAIN THE EU, Kunstverein GRAZ, 29. of Apri - 22 of June, 2006, Regensburg, Germany.

Unchain the EU (European Union) was first VD exhibition out of Bosnia&Herzegovina borders. President and executive director of Kunstverein GRAZ from Regensburg, together with dr. Tanja Wagensohn, find us in our ateliers at Barake. After few very polite words from both sides, Mr. Huber has invited us to have an exhibition in his gallery in Regensburg, Germany. We accepted enthusiastically knowing that it can be great opportunity for us to start international tour after very successful developing and going on of the Barake project.
In that time, we, as young artists, had many doubts and questions about European Union and its plans, intentions, and so on. However, we didn’t like the fact that we have to apply for visas every time when we want to travel in EU and that can explain the title of this exhibition. But this title have much more deeper and symbolic meaning with which we wanted to give simple and strong constructive critic to the EU project, and to get its executives and leaders focus and attention to its bad sides. For this occasion, Dr. Gerhard Schmid appeared on the exhibition and gives speech, with his thoughts, opinions and very strong respect for this exhibition and its meanings and questions.
In catalog of Unchain the EU exhibition, Dr. Niels von Redecker, former Consul and chairman of the cultural department office in German embassy Sarajevo, wrote his strong support letter for VD works and ideas. There were more than 200 people on the opening night of this exhibition.
Excerpt from Jurgen Huber opening speech.
What is an art exhibition?
It is clear; it is about art that need to be shown. To You, to audience, an Art is representing, showing, and placing itself.
It’s about, let me stay with this issue a bit more, something that needs to be set up, about one kind of pedestal. Pedestal is the metaphor for obstacle, for something that is standing on the way-we all know that from Heidegger’s philosophy.
Let’s suppose that is a fact. Art is setting itself up for you, the audience, on your way.
So, art will stop the audience to continue their way undisturbed. That is correct? That is correct!
You are the audience, it means public. You are Germany you are Regensburg, a public interested in art, art – sovereignty. And something is placed on your way. The art pedestal.
If we agree that art today is that what is presented at arts exhibition, we will be speared of endless definitions which are not helpful anyway. Whereas we a<re in art association GRAZ, art, with all its mentioned things, is now placed on your way. The art from Sarajevo. The art of few young people which call themselves ‘’Visionary Society. It is about , consequently, as it is written in the name of this art group, about visions, about future. Vision of past does not exist. It is about future of those who are creating art in Sarajevo; it means future of art group, visionary society.
A group is gathered together to show their art, to show and their life courage. This art I observe as a model for life, or better to say, a model for life courage.
….After you se this show, you should agree that is not about” worthy, good, beautiful”, not about parade art, not about market and not about provincial pseudo provocation for supersaturated public, it is about exhibition of freedom, exhibition of ART.
