Gallery WALL, KINO Bosna (KINO 1.Maj), 2007, Srajevo, Bosnia&Herzegovina.
The Gallery WALL is project initiated and written by Emir Kapetanovic. In Sarajevo city is one together place for alternative culture from all kind. That place is structured by one theater hall, corridor which is often using for exhibitions, and a club, for movie lovers and admirers. One wall from corridor of this space was perfect for Kapetanovic’s earlier idea, one wall gallery, with its programs, exhibitions and so on. Gallery WALL project representing a new alternative space for artist, or more precise, a new model of way to find needed space for fork, and to use it.
Excerpt from author’s concept for project:
The Gallery WALL is one new alternative art gallery in Sarajevo, located on a specific place-in the movie theater KINO Bosna, ex KINO 1.Maj, which is closed for a few years. Except Movie Theater, in KINO Bosna rooms, there is club-bar, a place where people like locals of all generations gather, as well as numerous foreign visitors and guests. That is the place where many languages are spoken, place for exchanging experiences, joining different traditions and cultures, and it is the reflection of the spirit of this city, as well as B&H.
The Gallery WALL is reaction of VD members on the space like this with purposes as:
- Recultivation of KINO Bosna, contributing the cultural environment.
- Transformation of regular and irregular visitors of the club-bar into active audience of visual art by monthly presentations of artists from local and foreign scene, opening their mind for other ways of communication.
- Raising the average gallery standards by organizing musical events (parties, concerts) and thus creating multimedia cultural event at every exhibition opening.
- Presentation and recognition of local and foreign visual and audio artists.
- Struggle against wide spread cultural anomaly in Sarajevo, post-colonial society culture which manipulates with cultural space by financial means as an advantage towards local cultural workers and artists.
- The Gallery WALL concept is that every author, by using traditional media of drawing and painting, transfer the forms and processes directly from his spirit on the wall, making a new artwork, whether he/she continues the previous work, or making a brand new one. That visual form is a whole ( rejecting nowadays artistic trends context and proclaiming as art ) , becomes inscription in time and space of its creation.
- The Gallery WALL is a self-sustainable project with minimal entrance fee for musical part of the event.
